How Our Rewire Cost Calculator Works
Our calculator provides a quick, personalised estimate based on the details you provide. It takes into account your property type, number of bedrooms, any additional requirements, and whether you’re eligible for discounts. We also consider property accessibility for our team, the need for extra installations, and your home’s age and build.
Based on this information, the calculator generates an instant cost estimate, giving you a clear idea of what a rewire might cost before arranging a professional inspection.

How Much Does a Home Rewire Cost?
The cost of rewiring a home in the UK typically ranges from £2,500 to £8,000+, depending on the size and type of property and the amount of work required.
As a rough cost guide:
-
1–2 bedroom flat: from £2,500 – £4,000
-
2–3 bedroom house: from £3,500 – £5,500
-
4+ bedroom house: from £5,500 – £8,000+
These figures usually include new wiring, sockets, switches, lighting points, and a new consumer unit to meet current regulations. Costs can increase if additional electrical points are required or if significant making good is needed after the work.
Because every property is different, these prices are estimates. Use our Rewire Cost Calculator to get a more accurate figure based on your home.

How do I know my home needs a rewire?
The Only Certain Way: An EICR
The only way to be completely sure whether your home needs a rewire is to have an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) carried out by a qualified electrician.
An EICR involves a full inspection and testing of your electrical installation. This includes checking all wiring, accessories, and especially the consumer unit (fuse board). Access to sockets, switches, and the fuse board is required. Importantly, a full rewire is not always necessary — the report will clearly outline any issues and recommend the most appropriate solution.
Common Warning Signs to Look Out For
While an EICR is essential for certainty, there are several warning signs you may notice yourself:
-
An outdated fuse box, particularly with rewireable fuses
-
Flickering or dimming lights
-
Sockets or switches that feel warm to the touch
-
Buzzing or crackling noises from electrical outlets
-
Visible old wiring, such as black rubber, fabric, or lead-sheathed cables
If your property is older or hasn’t been rewired in decades, these signs are especially important to take seriously.

What Factors Affect the Cost of a Rewire?
The cost of rewiring a home isn’t fixed and depends on several key factors. These include the size and type of property, as larger or more complex buildings require more time and materials.
The age and condition of the existing wiring can also affect cost, especially in older homes with outdated or unsafe cables. The number of sockets, lights, and electrical points you need plays a big role, as modern homes typically require more electrics than older installations.
Other factors include whether a consumer unit upgrade is required, how much making good (such as plastering or repairs) is needed after the work, and whether the property is occupied or empty during the rewire.
Because every home is different, rewire costs are usually given as a range. Our Rewire Cost Calculator helps you get a quick estimate based on your specific property.

Carried out a full 3 bed, terraced house rewire in less then 2 days before moving in! I was truly amazed how quick Jamie managed to get us a date and how fast the job was completed. Spotless job and the required aftercare was sorted promptly with maximum professionalism.
They do as they say, communication was smooth regarding their arrival and how long it will take etc and when we are ready to get the keys back.
Reasonably priced. Highly recommended company!

We contacted Jamie about a rewire last Sunday. We move in to our home in a couple a weeks so getting the rewire done quickly and professionally was paramount. Sam “the 1 that does all the work” in their Facebook reels 😂😂 came out and started the job on Friday with him running through the job and everything they are going to be doing and answering any questions we had. The boys finished up this afternoon leaving the job nice a tidy. Highly recommended

We prebooked homerewire for our new property before we moved in. Our move in date was delayed by two weeks and they managed to reschedule us with no hassle at all. Ryan and his team done a great job of our rewire, there was slightly more involved than they had initially thought, and I had added on a few extras from the original quote and they still finished the entire job slightly ahead of schedule! I couldn’t make it for a handover with Ryan so he sent me pictures and a video walk round before they finished to ensure that I was happy with the work. Would highly recommend homerewire to anyone else.
